As we learn more about food and food production as a population, we begin to become more conscious about making ethical decisions. One food group that probably raises the most concerns is meat. Is it possible to eat ethically when it comes to meat?
Those who buy meat from grocery stores may have a hard time tracing its origins. When you don’t know where your meat is coming from, how can you be sure it is ethical? That is why at Pasture to Plate we know that our organic meat is ethical and you can enjoy our delicious organic meats guilt-free.
Organic farming does not involve using chemicals that will harm the environment. This includes the area that the animals live on and the food that they eat. In fact, with our organic meats, our animals are mostly grass fed. Any food used in conjunction with it has organic certification.
At Pasture to Plate, our farm is small in size and we do not pack our animals into sheds, using artificial lighting and huge amounts of electricity. Instead, we let them roam free, letting our small herds feed on the local environment.
We are based in BC and use trucks to transport our meats to our Vancouver locations. We don’t leave a massive carbon footprint by having to utilize planes to transport our meat long distances and we even offer a discount to those who buy our meat directly from our ranch, to encourage more carbon neutrality.
As we are a small farm that produces organic meats, the treatment of the animals we keep is far more humane. Our animals live fulfilling lives out on our pastures. They are not pumped full of hormones to make them grow bigger than natural and make them feel very uncomfortable, and the food that they eat is grass, and organic grain when needed. These animals are allowed to grow to maturity naturally and enjoy their lives before being humanely harvested.
If you need any more information regarding our organic meats, we encourage you to contact us through our website or call into our butcher or grill in Vancouver, or even our ranch. We believe that people should inform themselves about their food choices, so they can make ethical decisions.
Substituting regular meat with organic meat alternatives is a small step that makes a big difference and allows you to eat ethically and healthfully.
